Tablet Repairability Scores - iFixit

Tablet Repairability Scores - iFixit:

Tablet Repairability

Our engineers disassembled and analyzed each tablet, awarding a repairability score between zero and ten. Ten is the easiest to repair.

How we rate devices:

A device with a perfect score will be relatively inexpensive to repair because it is easy to disassemble and has a service manual available. Points are docked based on the difficulty of opening the device, the types of fasteners found inside, and the complexity involved in replacing major components. Points are awarded for upgradability, use of non-proprietary tools for servicing, and component modularity.

Android 4.0 'Ice Cream Sandwich' update plans from HTC | AndroidOS.in

Android 4.0 'Ice Cream Sandwich' update plans from HTC:

Android 4.0 ‘Ice Cream Sandwich’ update plans from HTC

android ice cream sandwich aka android 4.0 Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich update plans from HTCAfter Google confirmed that Nexus S will be getting Android 4.0 update, HTC came forward to announce that it is currently looking at Ice Cream Sandwich release and will detail its upgrade plans in the days to come.
Unlike Nexus S, which is a stock Android device, HTC devices come with Sense, which makes it difficult and takes time to upgrade them to the latest release. We hope that HTC gets its act together and updates at least the device released this year to Android 4.0.
Google has already stated that ICS should theoretically run on Gingerbread device.
HTC Statement:
“We are excited about the latest update for Android,Ice Cream Sandwich, and are currently reviewing its features and functionality to determine our upgradeplans. Our goal for Android updates is to give every customer an improved user experience, which means balancing each phone’s unique hardware, HTC Sense experience and the Android kernel. While our goal is toupgrade as many of our recent devices as possible, we are committed to maintaining every phone’s performance and usability first. Please stay tuned for more updates on specific device upgrade plans.”

Seagate launches GoFlex Satellite a new mobile - Storage Devices, Data Storage Devices | ThinkDigit News

Seagate launches GoFlex Satellite a new mobile - Storage Devices, Data Storage Devices:
Seagate has launched the GoFlex Satellite in India, calling it the first battery-powered external hard drive to wirelessly extend the storage capacity of any Wi-Fi enabled mobile device. With 500GB capacity and Wi-Fi access over 802.11 b/ g/n and a rechargeable battery, the GoFlex Satellite enables users to carry a large library of media and data with them on the go, and access it wirelessly on their mobile devices without a computer.
Speaking on the launch, Seagate India's Rajesh Khurana said:
“With the growth of the tablet and iPad markets and the larger volumes of high-quality media now being consumed, there is a clear need for access to content that is not plagued with the challenges of streamed video over the Internet. The unfortunate fact is that these popular new mobile devices are hampered by their limited storage capacity while one of their primary functions is that of media consumption. With the GoFlex Satellite mobile wireless storage, we wished to create an elegant solution that provides real value to the multitude of tablet users out there by delivering a seamless connection to local storage.
No longer will a consumer feel as though it is a compromise to purchase a lower capacity tablet or iPad. With GoFlex Satellite, people will be able to carry their entire media library with them without the need for wires or the web at a fraction of the cost of adding 3G or purchasing or a higher capacity tablet.”
The GoFlex Satellite is capable connecting to up to three devices, and provides a stand-by battery life of up to 25 hours, and up to five hours of continuously streaming video. To help with extending battery life, the free GoFlex Media App provides a progressive download feature, which temporarily loads the video on to the Android device it is being streamed to, allowing the drive to go into stand-by mode. The GoFlex Media App is available for iOS devices and Android devices. Android device owners will also get the ability to access the contents of the GoFlex Satellite via the mobile device's web browser.

GoFlex Satellite will be available from end-October through select retailers and resellers, for a manufacturer’s suggested retail price of INR 11,500 (plus local taxes). Also onboard is the Media Sync software, which makes grabbing media from a computer much easier. Even music and videos purchased through iTunes can be loaded to the GoFlex Satellite drive and will play on all authorized devices. For rapid loading of media content, the wireless mobile storage comes equipped with the superfast USB 3.0 cable to get files from your computer to the GoFlex Satellite drive. The USB 3.0 cable will also continue to work with USB 2.0 ports and is easily removed for portability. In addition to the USB 3.0 cable, the GoFlex Satellite drive comes complete with a car charger and a compact wall charger.

HTC coming up with it’s own OS?

HTC has been experimenting with the O.S used in it’s devices from a long time, it was the first company to adopt Android O.S, it also came out with devices running Qualcomm’s BREW  and has been running Windows 6.5 from long back, recently they  have also introduced devices running Microsoft’s Windows Phone 7. Now we are hearing that HTC is looking to develop it’s own O.S, is this HTC’s reply to Google buying Motorola  or is HTC worried about future Android upgrades and it’s relation with Google? Reason could also be the recent lawsuit against HTC by Apple on HTC’s  Android devices.
Well nobody really knows what their motives are, but if HTC is looking to acquire any O.S and then I guess there are very few Operating Systems out there. Of course there is HP’s recently acquired WebOS for sale, maybe they could go for Android based O.Ses like MIUI. I would like to see HTC acquiring WebOS from HP and making devices based on that Operating System. In this way HTC does not have to fear about future relationships with Google, nor pay huge amount of money to Microsoft, and I am sure that WebOS is not having a huge price tag. Samsung already has Bada so it would not hurt HTC to come up with it’s own OS actually it would benefit the market, because all we see today is Android and iOS…..this is their best chance to bring something new, something innovative.
